Skilling is a lifelong process. Hence, skill up gradation and Re-skilling are fundamental components of the skilling cycle.

Skilling

India is expected to be home to a skilled workforce of 500 million by 2022. About 15 million persons are expected to join the work force every year. This talent pool needs to be adequately skilled. The Indian economy is paused for a major take off. The World Bank estimates that Indian GDP would be one of the best in the world by 2017. To achieve the same, skilled manpower is one of the most critical requirements.
In order to meet this challenge, there is need for a major thrust to imbibe Indian youth with adequate skill expertise.

Up-Skilling

The potential to impart modern and comprehensive skills required to meet the growing demand is highly inadequate in our country. It is reported that hardly less than one third of the candidates entering the job market fully meet the criteria of the employment as desired by the employer. It is this gravity of the situation, enhancement and upgrading of skills of the existing work force is hugely required.

“If you want the country to progress on the path of development, then skill development should be our mantra.”
Mr. Narendra Modi, Prime Minister, India

SUSTAINABLE LIVELIHOODS

The livelihood today has come to be understood by various workers in various facets. Livelihood could be defined as
“A set of economic activities, involving self-employment and/or wage employment by using one’s endowments (human & material) to generate adequate resources (cash & non-cash) for meeting the requirements of self & household. Ideally “Livelihood” keeps a person meaningfully occupied in a sustainable manner with dignity.”
Sustainable livelihood is one of the biggest challenges in India. There have been plethora of initiatives taken by the government to the address the issues of poverty alleviation since the independence.
